This week in Reception children have been learning about the settings that are in the story- We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Children have been learning to retell the story through a story map. In provision they have been looking at pictures of the settings- grass, river, mud, forest, snowstorm, and cave. Using word mats and sound mats they have been practising their writing skills by copying the correct word or initial sound for the setting they chose to use. Children have also practised learning the settings through reading, by matching the correct word to the setting pictures. This helps children recognise keywords that they read at the beginning of each literacy lesson. This week’s homework on Seesaw will be practising retelling the story with a story map. Help your child say the story out loud following the oral story text and help them to use the pictures as prompts to remember the story.
