Reception Admissions
Beckfoot Heaton Primary School & Nursery is a co-educational primary school for children between the ages of 2 and 11. The admission number from Reception, agreed with the Local Education Authority, is 90 per year group. We hold open days where you can come and see our school prior to your child starting in September. If you would like to visit us at any other point, please contact us – we would love to welcome you.

Admissions & Parental Choice – Nursery
We offer 2 and 3 year old nursery places.
We maintain a waiting list for admissions in our 2 year and 3 year nursery. We offer morning, afternoon and 30-hour sessions for those who are eligible.
2 year nursery entry is eligibility based and many 2 year-olds are now eligible for this free 15 hour per week early education place. We admit children into the 2 year nursery setting in September and January. If spaces are available, we also admit children in April.
Currently all 3 year-old children are entitled to nursery place of 15 hours, and this can be taken as either morning or afternoon sessions, usually starting in September. We also offer eligibility based fully funded 30 hour places.
Children usually start in our nursery in September after they have turned 3 – if we have availability, we also admit children again in January.
When it is nearing time for your child to start, your child will be invited to visit the nursery with a family member and have a stay and play session. If this is successful, a start date will be agreed. Some children need a slower transition to nursery , and we can work with families to ensure a successful start to school life.

Please contact school as soon as possible to add your child’s name to the waiting lists for our Nurseries – come into speak with us, email us [email protected] or call us on 01274 363070. We will need to see your child’s birth certificate.
Children attending our nursery are not guaranteed a place in reception class. A separate application must be made to the Local Authority which is responsible for allocating places in our Reception classes. The application should be made between September and January in the year before they are due to start and you can access the application form here.

Arrangements for children starting school
Beckfoot Heaton Primary School is a Community school and will admit 90 children into Reception every year. There is one intake each year in September. Children will normally start full time in Reception class in the September of the school year in which they will be five. Please refer to Admissions Policy for how places are allocated to children. If parents receive notice that a place has not been offered to their child, they may, if they wish, appeal to the Local Authority. Sometimes the appeals are successful. In the summer term we hold transition meetings for all existing and new families to provide information about the year ahead.
